After speaking, what is our most basic and universal tool for communication? It’s writing. We start by using our fingers as kids, then advance to crayons, and (hopefully at some point in our childhood) end up with pens. While the keyboard has become an essential tool for us in the digitized world, many still feel most comfortable when “jotting down” a note with a real pen on real paper, and it’s because that’s how we started out writing in the first place.
With the iPad and its huge capacitive surface, we’ve now been given the chance to mix the best of both worlds: using our deeply ingrained skills of handwriting while still creating a digital, quickly reusable record. One of the Apps that excels in this field is Penultimate, and I’ll take a deeper look at it here in the first in a series about handwriting apps on the iPad.
The iPad has proved itself a very useful device in more situations that any of us thought possible. Developers have done some truly wonderful things in many different areas, from gaming, to music, and even cooking!
The iPad is definitely shaping up to be an incredible cooking companion. There is a plethora of cooking and food related applications now available and we’ll try to sift through the pile for some of the best and most interesting ones available right now.
Following the hugely successful international release of the iPad 2, it seems particularly apt to ask the question: Will you be upgrading?
If you’re the proud owner of an original iPad then I would guess that it still feels like an amazing device. It’s probably created a niche in your life and is now something you wouldn’t want to live without!
But, there’s a new iPad on the block and it does some things that you kind of wish yours did (even it it’s only beautiful integration with the Smart Cover).
The inevitable feeling of slight dissatisfaction is something that’s an unfortunate byproduct of Apple’s product release cycle, and is deftly discussed by David Appleyard in his article: Thought’s and Reflections on Apple’s Product Release Cycle.
Are you someone who can afford the upgrade but prefers to wait for every second release, or do you prefer to wait until your Apple product is completely out of circulation? Is the iPad 2 irresistible?
Conversely, are you content with your original iPad for the time being, given that it’s still a long way ahead of its competition? We want to know what you think, so post a comment below and don’t forget to vote!
Ever since it was released in late 2008, World of Goo has been a wildly popular PC, Mac, and WiiWare game. Developed by two former EA developers, World of Goo has been praised as one of the best examples of successful indie games. This past December World of Goo finally has been ported to the iPad, bringing the full game to touch-screens for the first time.
World of Goo has been featured in the App Store and risen to the top of the best seller charts numerous times for one simple reason: it’s one of the best touch-screen games available today. It’s incredible how natural the game feels on the iPad, while the art, soundtrack, and gameplay are suburb. Keep reading to find out more about World of Goo! (more…)
Following the international release of the iPad 2 it’s worth giving a thought to the continued ability of Apple to develop and market incredibly successful products. Can the iPad 2 possibly fail?
The release of the first iPad, way back in April 2010, was met by dissenting voices in the technology community. From people heralding it as a marvellous technological breakthrough, to asking serious questions over its purpose. Where does it fit in? Do people need it?
In spite of the initial qualms and speculation over the iPad, Apple was fully prepared to back its new invention and follow its well proven, tried and tested, roadmap for success. Apple would immediately get back to working on the next iteration, the purification of its new technology. (more…)
