This week we feature games with some hardcore battles on the track, as well as in the skies — Table Top Racing and Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy, respectively — plus a few “lighter” games, like Pixel People and Little Inferno.
There’s also the hilariously named, but no less intense, Tennis in the Face, in which you assume the identity of former tennis pro Pete Pagassi, who must save the city with his fierce backhand and smashing serve.

Imagine a world in which the city is in danger of being destroyed by the evil Explodz Inc. and the only way to save everyone is by using your extraordinary tennis skills. As former tennis pro Pete Pagassi, you’ll swipe your finger across the screen and lift it at the most opportune time to deliver a smashing return.
As the ball bounces off walls and platforms, triggering Explodz-crates, ball tubes and other objects, it will set off chain reactions that take out enemies and put other events in motion. Remember: The more enemies you can take out with a single serve, the higher your score will be.
Each time you beat a level you advance to the next district and closer and closer to the Explodz megafactory — destroy it and save humanity! Enjoy more than 100 levels, plus bonus game modes, slow motion level finales and a dozen Game Center achievements.
Little Inferno is a dazzling game (if you can call it a “game”) that’s hard to describe. The setting is a fireplace, in which you can buy and burn all sorts of objects, such as logs, credit cards, batteries, nuclear devices, tiny galaxies and others.
Does the premise sound a little strange? Maybe. But it’s still somehow surprisingly entertaining and addictive. The more objects you toss into the fire, the more objects you unlock, and as you play you earn coins to buy more items to scorch.
It’s really the visual effects that make Little Inferno such a cool app. You can interact with the objects as they burn and watch, in fascination, as they’re destroyed according to realistic physics. Plus, there are no ads whatsoever, and the phenomenal soundtrack is available for free on the developers’ website.
Create your own version of utopia in a pixelated community filled with Pixel People. And there’s a lot of designing to do! You get to control the residents’ genes to generate Pixel People with specific skills, then find a place for them in the community where they’ll make the best contribution.
You can create up to 150 different citizen types, such as athletes, judges — even buccaneers. Earn money by filling your buildings with Pixel People, then use that income to build more buildings and create more jobs. Collect Utopium currency to speed up building processes and acquire extra-unique citizens.
Keep an eye out for surprises in the form of critters, bonus coins, super-special buildings and more.
Combat meets racing in this game featuring challenging tracks, unique obstacles, high-quality graphics and smooth gameplay. Engage in intense multiplayer battles (up to four players) and championship battles in half a dozen different modes.
Blast your way past your frenemies as you race around any one of the eight different racetracks, earning power-ups and winning coins, which you can use to upgrade your car or unlock new vehicles.
Compete against others over the web and see who can claim the top spot on the leaderboards in this game straight from the co-creators of Sony’s blockbuster PlayStation franchise WipEout.
Fight to become king of the skies while experiencing such incredible special effects as bump mapping, atmospheric scattering, volumetric clouds with realistic lighting, sun glare, day and night transitions and more.
After you successfully end the campaign, you can take on dogfight and survival missions, death matches, and games like Capture the Flag or Defend the Base.
There’s no doubt the game looks slick, with high-def images complete with jet engine heat haze and refractive raindrops. Soak it all in, but keep your eye on the prize as you fire missiles and issue squadron commands at your enemies.
