Weber’s on the Grill is the first of the many recipe finding and planning apps. You can even watch video lessons from top chefs to learn to truly master your grill.

Weber’s on the Grill is a great recipe application because while there aren’t as many recipes as you might find in some other apps, the ones found here are all dedicated to grilling and meat. It’s perfect to find recipes and to learn some necessary skills for a proper BBQ.

You can also shop for Omaha Steaks products from within the application, which is not a surprise given that it’s a free commercial application.

This is an application that my love of bacon cheeseburgers certainly wouldn’t let me forget to include — The Better Bacon Book. It’s your guide to making delicious bacon. You can watch HD videos, study photos, learn the history of bacon or try out one of over 30 recipes in the application. Bacon lovers, it’s a must download.

The Best Burgers

Burger lovers, this is another must download. While we can all pull out a frozen patty, grill it up and slap it on a bun with some cheese and ketchup, that’s not really going to bring out the best at your BBQ. Jamie Oliver’s fantastic recipe application is a great download for anyone looking for simple meal ideas made from healthy, wholesome ingredients. The Photo Cookbook is definitely my favorite cookbook. It features beautiful photography, is easy to follow and most of the recipes require very little expensive and rare ingredients. I’m able to complete most recipes without having to rush out to buy five ingredients I’m only going to use for one occasion. The application comes with 84 recipes featuring meat, fish, vegetables and baking. There are also in-app packs available for Italian, Asian and further baking recipes. You will see a great deal of recipes that you want to cook in the application, just from skimming through the pictures. It’s a great app to checkout, and has some great grilling recipes available.

iCooking Barbecue is another great recipe app dedicated specifically to traditional barbecue items. A nice touch is that you can also easily add your own barbecue recipes to the app. iCooking also has an American Cookout version available, which is also worth checking out.

Punchfork is a great way to discover trending recipes from various food blogs, including The Pioneer Woman, Simply Recipes, 101 Cookbooks and more. Be warned, however … the application is not the best written one in the world, so if that will irk you, don’t download the application. Otherwise, it’s worth it for the great recipes.

Picnic recipes are another great source of inspiration for BBQs and cookouts. iCookbook is the last of the recipe collections for grilling to discuss, and it’s quite the worthwhile application. The app includes over 2,000 recipes with more added every month for free. You can utilize voice commands to navigate recipes, operate timers and more, making it extremely convenient when you are busy prepping food.

You can also print and personalize recipes, add recipes, use the “Stir it Up!” feature to plan a random meal and more. The application offers a great variety of recipes included by default, but if you are looking for more summer recipes, you can add collections such as gourmet or deluxe burgers, barbecue basics, summer sweets and much more.

KitchenPad Timer

Before moving on to the next section (drinking), I want to share a few kitchen tools with you. First is the KitchenPad Timer application, which requires no additional equipment. The application allows you to manage up to nine timers at once. Better yet, you can assign the timers to images, setting a separate time for each burner and over that you have. It’s a great way to keep track of the many dishes that you have going at once, especially when preparing beforehand for the actual event.

iGrill

Last but not least is a very handy tool that does require some extra equipment. If you purchase a probe from iGrill Inc., you can utilize the free app along with the probe to check temperatures, run timers, view temperature history and more. While you can probably purchase a thermometer for cheaper and get much of the same functionality, iGrill offers a high-tech twist with social network integration. If you grill a lot, it could be a worthy investment, and the app is pretty fun.

Another of the photo cookbook series, their latest release is a great way to lead into the all-important beverages section of this roundup. Just like the food applications offered by this company, the cocktails application is beautiful to look at and easy to understand. Recipes are sorted by “classics,” “with vodka and gin,” “with whiskey and rum,” and “bubbles, virgins & co.” There are 25 recipes per category, making it a great value. While there are not as many recipes as you might find in other cocktail applications, this is easily one of the most beautiful bartending apps out there.

Next up, we welcome a classic member of the kitchen — Martha Stewart. Smoothies are a great alternative to offer, whether you have them available as an alternative for adults or a healthy treat for the kids in attendance. If you are interested in something a little different however, Whole Living Smoothies is worth a look.

The app is great for a variety of smoothie recipes you’ve never thought of before. Examples include apple/carrot/ginger smoothies, avocado/pear and classics such as blueberry/yogurt and more. Suntime

An important part of your self-care during a barbecue is ensuring that you do not spend too much time in the sun, and that you are protected while you are exposed. Suntime is a great application which allows you to calculate the maximum amount of time you should spend in the sun. The app lets you input your skin type, the SPF of the sunscreen you are wearing, your altitude, UV index and other information in order to calculate how many hours you can spend outside. It’s a great guide, although remember that no calculation is perfect!

Songza

Music is an important part of a barbecue from the music played while chopping vegetables to the music in the background while dining. Songza is a great application that offers curated playlists based upon the activity you are partaking in. You can also find playlists by genre, mood and more. Songza is one of my favorite music apps, and a great way to find appropriate music for the BBQ.

Jamboxx

I’ve been pretty into retro style lately, so it comes as no surprise that I’ve included a second vintage-inspired application — this time for music. Jamboxx brings back memories of mixtapes and classic boom boxes thanks to the ’80s inspired theme. It’s a great music player, makes some excellent “mixtape” playlists and provides a fun twist on the included Apple music player.

If you have a little one that wants to cook alongside you, letting them light up the grill probably isn’t the greatest idea.
