Pandora is the awesome manifestation of the Music Genome Project that now lives on your mobile devices and web browser. Pandora works by finding other music based on the artists you like. It is one my favorite ways to find new artists and songs. It customizes and tailors itself to you; you can simply thumbs up or thumbs down a track to customize your station.

What makes Pandora special on iPad is its new, big interface. It’s setup like iTunes music player on the iPad. You still get access to your same music and thumbs up and down options. It is all you know and love in a bigger, better size!

It seems like everyone is coming out with their own social networking services. Rdio is another one of those newly formed services but, with a difference. You can “follow” your friends and listen to their playlists and use their playlists to influence your music choices.

The app is free on the iPad. However, Rdio is a freemium service. You can listen to limited songs for free or you can subscribe to their service. Rdio’s plans are: $4.99 for Web Streaming, $9.99 Web & Mobile Streaming, and $17.99 for Family Streaming. Each plan is unlimited streaming and you will need the $9.99 plan with mobile streaming to work on your iPad.

The best part about radio.com app is how it socially integrates your local radio station. Radio.com includes multi-tasking, Last.fm scrobbling, and artist information. It features a nice, bold interface that brings plain old radio to life and helps you discover new tunes.

Oh the venerable Shazam app! It has been around since the stone age and still people are amazed by it. We all know how it works. You are listening to a tune on the radio or something on TV and you simply press the button and Shazam listens and tells you which song you are listening to. Even though my fancy card has RDS radio technology, my everyday car does not. With Shazam, I can know which song and artists is playing when I want.

Shazam has even expanded to embedded content within television shows (i.e. Platinum Hit on Bravo). You can tag songs, replay tracks, share tags, and more. You can also see what others are Shazaming and maybe you will like those tracks. Simply put, Shazam is a must have.

Let me just say, TuneIn Radio is my favorite app on this whole list. I love many of the radio stations here in New York and want to listen to them on the go (as we always are.)
