Ever since being launched in December 2009, Angry Birds has carved a name for itself in the gaming world. By combining comical graphics with addictive gameplay and chirpy idents, it’s become one of the most played and well-known games of its time. That’s a tough act to follow.
Instead of relying on that classic gameplay that we all know and love, Rovio’s taking a risk by putting out a completely different game mechanic using the anarchists of the franchise — the pigs. Ever walk into a mall and see some kid wearing an Angry Birds T-shirt? Maybe there’s a friend of yours who has a stuffed animal shaped like the red bird in the game. Possibly your dad is hooked on the app like crack — you get the picture.
That game was developed by Rovio, and recently a few of their developers spun off to create their own company, Boomlagoon. Their first release is called Noble Nutlings, and it’s the tale of three squirrels, a car and a bunch of acorns. Did they create the next Angry Birds or will these rodents go feral? The very first Angry Birds game was released on the iPhone in 2009, and has since become one of the top-selling iOS apps of all time. Millions upon millions of users have found themselves addicted, frustrated, and endlessly entertained by the simple act of flinging birds at pigs with slingshots.
The birds have travelled through deserts and forests, across seasons, and even down to Rio. Now, Rovio have taken the birds even further, all the way into the final frontier: Angry Birds Space is the newest addition to the series, and is packed with gravity puzzles, secret levels, and of course evil pigs.
