The iPad mini is an interesting concept. It’s something that consumers everywhere have been talking about for a long time, but now that it’s finally here, there’s been a lot of talk from the tech media about how the product really doesn’t measure up to expectations. How it’s not good enough because it doesn’t have a Retina display, or that it doesn’t have enough RAM. Yes, a lot of the tech press says that the iPad mini is a disappointment all the way around, but there are still a lot of people who bought them this past weekend, including me.

The iPad mini has now been in my hands for the past few days. So what’s the verdict? Is it worth it as a purchase or should the general public hold off? Is the tech press correct in their judgement? Let’s get into it after the jump.  (more…)

The iPad mini is officially for sale and in stores (assuming they have stock, anyway). So did you buy one? Do you want one? Sure, that’s all great, but what do you think about it?

See, lots of people are saying some negative things about the iPad mini, particularly in regards to the lack of a Retina display. But is that a deal breaker for you? Are there other reasons that you don’t want or like the iPad mini? Let us know in the poll to the right!

Did you get any sleep on Thursday night? If you were preordering the new iPad mini, chances are you didn’t. That’s because preorders went live at midnight Pacific time in the U.S., which kept a lot of east coasters up pretty late into the night (or early in the morning, depending on your perspective).

So did you preorder one? Were you able to get the order placed at all? Are you going to wait in line instead? Let us know in the poll to the right!

After what seemed like months of rumors and waiting, it’s here: the iPad mini exists, and you can hold it in your hot little hands. Well, you can come November 2 anyways, and preorders start this friday, October 26. What else do you need to know?

The New York Times was one of the earliest iPad adopters. So early in fact, that they were able to show off their app alongside the device itself at it’s January 2010 introduction. Since then, the New York Times has continued to be an excellent example of print media adopting new and emerging digital platforms.

However, in early October, the New York Times did something a little different. They launched an “experimental” HTML5 web app for select subscribers that could very well replace the native offering in the App Store. Let’s take a look at the New York Times’ release and what it means for web apps as a platform. (more…)

It’s been rumored for a long time now, but we finally found out about the big announcement the other day: Apple has something “more” to show us. What could it be?

If you believe the rumor mill, we’re going to see a 7.85-inch iPad, new 13-inch MacBook Pros with Retina displays, iPads with Lightning connectors, upgraded Mac minis, redesigned iMacs and maybe — just maybe — a flying unicorn that cries rainbow tears.

What’s your guess? Let us know in the poll to the right!

Whatever it takes to get an edge.

In professional sports, as in business, people are always looking for those extra little advantages; the details that make a difference. Tweaks to practicing regimes, personalised changes to helmets and even adapting meal times to change players’ biorhythms for games in different time zones could be the difference between winning and losing. So when a revolutionary piece of technology comes along there can be no hesitation by teams in the NFL, not when a special shiny ring is at stake … (more…)

When I bought my first iPad, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with it. Over time, I learned that it was great for pretty much everything — games, writing, watching movies — but for the most part, I read and play games on my iPad.

My wife, on the other hand, she’s all about productivity on her iPad. She’s always getting things done and working on some new to-do list — she even uses it for her grocery lists.

What about you? What do you use your iPad for the most? Let us know in the poll to the right!
