iPad Game Thursday: New Releases

This week brings yet more variety, with the highly charming and very commercial-looking Cyto; the completely unique Krashlanders; and a heavy dose of military action thrown in for good measure, via Battle Nations, Bro Guns 2 and Mad Merx: Nemesis.

In other words, it’s time to fling, shoot, jump, ski, dodge, blast and “krash” your way into the weekend. Click “more” to begin!

This addictive, easy-on-the eyes puzzle game has you flinging a little organism, called Cyto, through more than 80 artistic levels of mesmerizing and challenging fun in an environment that looks a little like it’s filled with cells or underwater organisms.

It would seem poor little Cyto has lost his memories and their pieces scattered all over the hero’s world. But there’s good news — his memories can be restored if you can collect all the fragments and put them back together. There are three fragments per level, and you’ll have to solve puzzles or overcome other obstacles in order to obtain each one.

Successfully travel from one end of the level to the portal at the end to aid Cyto on his journey, which is set to a beautiful, atmospheric soundtrack.

Gun Bros 2

The story of Gun Bros 2 goes like this: The TOOL, aka the Tyrannical Oppressors of Life, have built an armory intended to render total destruction to anyone and everything that stands in their path.

Fortunately, the FRAGGED, aka the Freakishly Rugged Advanced Genetics Galactic Enforcement Division, have built up quite the armory as well, plus they’ve made the factories and old Xplodium mines fully operational to produce resources and newer, more advanced weapons. And two agents, Percy and Francis Gun, are heading up the fight against the TOOL.

Enjoy equipping Percy and Francis with combinations pistols, rocket launchers, lasers, shotguns, tanks and any number of mods. There are multiple boss battles to be fought and won, as well as environments to be unlocked.

Battle Nations

Battle Nations combines modern gameplay with humor and an old-school aesthetic that will likely remind you of the superhero cartoons from your childhood. In the game you’ll take charge of the Imperial Army and lead its quirky troops in expanding the empire.

But there’s a lot of work to be done. Between battles against your friends and other players you’ll be required to collect resources, build important structures, train your soldiers, and engage in other strategic operations. There are more than 45 levels with 300 missions for you to dominate, as well as more than 90 unique troops and vehicles to train and utilize in battle.

New for the latest release of the game players can enjoy portable defences, the new Silver Wolves unit, high-level housing, new missions and more.

Mad Merx: Nemesis

Tactical shooter game Mad Merx: Nemesis invites you to challenge both friends and foes to some multiplayer madness.

There are four totally unique classes you can choose from — suit up as a sniper, commando, raider or scout, then make your selections for weapons, armor and other gear. Engage in a deathmatch, team deathmatch or total free for all, and then let the action unfold.

Counters keep track of your kills, ammo and other stats, and pop-ups alert you to other players’ actions. To keep things interesting, explore all three different environments, familiarize yourself with the two and a half dozen different guns, and perfect multiple team combat tactics.

One of these is not quite like the others. Krashlander is a visually distinct physics-powered game that will have you skiing — yes, that’s right, skiing — your way toward seeking revenge upon the evil robots which have destroyed your world.

“Ski, jump, attack, krash!” would be the mantra here, as you build speed down steep mountain slopes, fly over valleys and other gaps, and “krash” into the robots with practiced precision. Some may initially find the controls more than a little tough to master, but then you love a good challenge, right?

Everyone knows the crashes are sometimes the best aspects of a game like this, so it’s genius that crashing has been made the goal. Enjoy repeated rigid-body-style crashes, a very cool and minimalistic color palette, addictive gameplay, and a comical storyline and, of course, fun objective.
