iPad Game Thursday: New Releases

Here we blend what’s real with what’s perhaps not so real. While the goal of Real Racing 3 is to make you feel like an actual race car driver who’s speeding around the Hockenheimring, Deepworld creates a completely made-up — but utterly fantastic — universe filled with scattered pieces of technology that you must put back together.

Also, Zen Pinball brings the wildest tables of your dreams straight to your device, and The Silent Age asks what would happen if the terrible events imagined occurred following the Cold War era. Finally, Plague Inc. makes it your goal to create a global pandemic by developing and turning loose a deadly and highly adaptive pathogen.

Admittedly, a few of these seem more likely to come true than others, wouldn’t you say? Click through to start playing.

Real Racing 3

Enjoy a slew of new features in Real Racing 3, including additional officially licensed tracks, such as the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, Hockenheimring and others.

Plus, experience the hottest and longest roster of car manufacturers yet — Porsche, Lamborghini, Dodge, Bugatti, Audi — they’re all here. See what you can do with your ride of choice on the game’s expanded 22-car grid, and take advantage of the new Time Shifted Multiplayer technology, which lets you race against friends any time, even if your friends aren’t online.

Powered by the new Mint 3 Engine, Real Racing 3 features more than 900 races, events and challenges; authentic car damage; and dynamic reflections for a more realistic driving experience.

The Silent Age

This game has you taking on the identity of Joe, who works as an attendant in a government building in 1972 during the Cold War era. One day a mysterious man warns this average Joe of terrible events to come just before giving him a device that allows him to travel 40 years into the future.

It turns out the man was right — terrible things did happen, and mankind is now extinct. Now Joe is trapped between the doomed past he left behind and a dismal present. But if he can discover what it was that wiped out the people, maybe he can go back in time to prevent it and save the world.

Everyone loves a good mystery, right? The Silent Age will not only pull you in with its intriguing storyline, but also challenge your investigative skills. Each scene is beautifully illustrated, and gameplay is addictive.

Zen Pinball

The wait is over for new tables in Zen Pinball. You can now make in-app purchases to experience “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back,” “Boba Fett” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

All tables are 3-D and interactive and include realistic ball movements and other physics, as well as fantasy themes and epic movie and comic book characters, such as Wolverine, Captain America, Luke Skywalker and others. You can watch trailers for available tables before deciding whether to download them or not.

The Sorcerer’s Lair table is free and gives pinball enthusiasts the opportunity to hone their skills before stepping up their game with some of the paid-for tables. Plus try your hand at hot seat multiplayer mode, in-game friend challenges, table achievements and, of course, total domination of the global leaderboards.

Plague Inc.

If most games have the protagonist saving the world, then Plague Inc. is nothing like other games. Here, your goal is to develop a lethal, global plague by injecting Patient Zero and then outsmarting humanity’s every move to destroy the pathogen and defend itself.

Designed especially for iOS mobile devices, the game features more than a dozen disease types, all with very different strategies to master, as well as more than 50 countries which can be infected, hundreds of traits to evolve and thousands of world events to adapt to.

The latest update includes a Necroa virus expansion pack, an apocalyptic challenge, abilities such as “zombie horde,” five new genes, a population percentage bar so that you can view the status of countries, and more.
