iPad Game Thursday: New Releases

This week’s game roundup ranges from the simplistic — hurling bottle caps at ice cubes — to the very complicated: storming the beaches at Normandy. And in between there’s a round of golf, a murder mystery in the town of Little Riddle, and a redneck trying to save his bar from some very rude would-be patrons (well I guess they can’t help it; they’re zombies, after all).

But these games still have a few things in common: They will certainly challenge you and provide a bit of fun. Click through to take a look.

Redneck Revenge: A Zombie Roadtrip

In this cartoon game, you’re a redneck trying to defend his bar from the zombie visitors who are set on causing mayhem, death and destruction. The goal is to defend your position, spare the citizens, and kill as many zombies as possible during the course of the 30 action-packed levels.

You’ll need to put together an arsenal, of course — choose from pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, bulldozers, spud guns, beer-launchers, dynamite-stuffed chickens and even more options. It will be up to you to determine what’s most effective when it comes to saving your bar and town.

Personalize the redneck’s outfit for various zombie-fighting occasions, take the fight outside (along Route 66, to the junkyard and even a nightclub), and complete the more than 50 challenging objectives in survival mode.

Bottle Cap Blitz

Sometimes the best games are the simplest ones. There’s just something so gratifying about flinging an everyday object toward a target for points. Bottle Cap Blitz adds the appropriate amount of modern flair to this concept while still keeping things uncomplicated.

Your goal is to fire bottle caps toward ice cubes, trying to smash as much ice as possible in 60 seconds. If you’re good, you’ll earn combos and score major point and power boosts, including special fruit power-ups.

Collect all the different bottle cap designs and compete against other players in the weekly high score tables — all while pretending you’re sitting on a beach somewhere, just tossing bottle caps.

Frontline Commando: D-Day

Third-person shooter Frontline Commando places you in World War II at Normandy, where you must storm the beaches, clear the trenches, battle your way through the countryside and ultimately take back France.

Try your hand at five different campaigns with 145 separate missions (based on actual beach landings — Juno, Sword, Utah, Gold and Omaha, if you want to do some research) that involve maneuvers like the destruction of powerful tanks and cannons to allow Allied forces to advance.

Take down bombers, dodge mines, leap over barriers, dart from cover point to cover point, call in artillery strikes and engage your enemies with historic weapons from the era. This game was designed for players 17 years of age or older.
