Like many people, I grew up watching The Wizard of Oz on television in all its technicolor glory. Who would have thought that almost 75 years after it was first released it would now be available to play in 3D on this high tech gadget we call an iPad, huh?

Developed by newcomer Spooky Cool Labs and licenced by Warner Bros.,The Wizard of Oz takes you on a magical adventure through Oz, following the original storyline that we all know and love, but with a slight modern-day twist. Hit the jump for a nostalgic walk down memory lane, but beware of those pesky Flying Monkeys!


The revolutionary teamLabBody-3D Motion Human Anatomy- shows in incredible detail the inside of a human body. Starting in 1998, the researchers based in the Osaka University Orthopaedic Biomaterial Science Laboratory have imaged 827 individual body elements in full 3D using state of the art CT and MRI imaging. With help from Professor Kazuomi Sugamoto, they have developed a new approach to image living human bodies, and record their muscular skeletal movement and range. This movement differs from that of previously living examples, and this pioneering field of research is brought to life through this iPad app.

Capturing the internal motion of a living human — and visualising this in glorious 3D — has resulted in a beautiful and insightful application. Useful for education, analysis, diagnosis and after-care for patients, it is well worth a look if you are a practising medical professional, and is a wonderful curiosity even if you’re not.


When I’m not busy writing for AppStorm, I work at an animal rescue in the next town over, re-homing unwanted dogs and cats. It’s a difficult but rewarding job, and I was curious to see just how well an app such as PetWorld 3D: My Animal Rescue compared to the reality of dealing with homeless animals.

When the first iPad was announced in 2010, the reaction was a mix of excitement and criticism. The major complaints were the lack of any USB ports, a camera, the ability to multi-task, and the absence of support for Adobe Flash content.

In 2011, the iPad 2 added some of those features and an estimated 29 million iPads have been sold in the two years since the release of the original iPad – as Apple silenced the critics.

I decided it’s never too early to begin speculating about the future. Now that Apple has once again revolutionized a product line and put themselves firmly in first place, what can they do to improve with the iPad 3 and leave competitors struggling to keep up?
